In mid-August 2022, the Tasmanian Government called for submissions in the 2023-24 Tasmanian Budget consultation process, to focus on the priorities of: supporting Tasmanians with the rising cost of living; improvements that could be made to existing Government services and processes; and opportunities to improve services that are directed towards vulnerable people.
On the 1st and 2nd of September, both Unions Tasmania and the Tasmanian Government participated in the national Jobs and Skills summit, convened by the Australian Government to discuss shared economic challenges and solutions with unions, employers, civil society, and government, across the broad themes of maintaining full employment and growing productivity; boosting job security and wages; lifting participation and reducing barriers to employment; delivering a high-quality labour force through skills, training and migration; and maximising opportunities in the industries of the future.
The Jobs and Skills Summit themes naturally overlap with the priorities of the Tasmanian Government and Tasmanian workers, and it is in this light that Unions Tasmania has submitted input and recommendations to the Tasmanian Government.
