Unions rally in support of TasNetworks members campaign for mainland pay parity

23 September 2024

Unions Tasmania is today holding a rally in support of TasNetwork’s members and their campaign for mainland pay parity.

TasNetwork’s management has so far ignored worker’s claims for mainland wages and left them with no other option than to take industrial action.

These workers are the very same ones Tasmanians have relied on after recent wild weather left many without power. While most of us were indoors, they were outside, undertaking high risk work restoring power to homes and businesses across the state.

Instead of coming to the table with a fair offer, TasNetworks management are now rushing their enterprise agreement out to a vote.

TasNetworks members are part of a growing number of Tasmanian workers across the private and public sectors who are standing up for mainland pay parity.

“Cost of living pressures are smashing Tasmanians, and this pain is compounded by the fact that in too many cases Tasmanian workers are being ripped off because of where we live,” said Unions Tasmania Secretary, Jessica Munday.

“For too long, employers in the public and private sectors have taken advantage of Tassie workers. Any myths that it is cheaper to live here in Tassie are long dead. You’ll be hearing the words ‘same job, same pay’ from union members in ever increasing numbers as Tasmanian workers escalate their efforts to close the mainland wage gap,” said Ms Munday.

Speakers will include Unions Tasmania Secretary Jessica Munday, ASU Tasmanian Coordinator Sam Batchelor, CEPU Deputy Secretary Chris Clark, and workers from TasNetworks and the Hobart City Council. All will be available for media comment following the rally.
