Same Job, Same Pay

Same Job, Same Pay

Tasmanian unions are fighting to close the mainland wage gap.

Tasmanian workers are just as skilled, dedicated and hard working as workers on the mainland. But too often, we're still being told that we should be paid less, just because of where we live. So much so, that if you compare average full-time wages, ABS data shows that Tasmanians are earning $11,000 less than the other Australians.

Our community is suffering doubly in a cost-of-living crisis, because the state government is also not paying enough to get the workers that we need to deliver essential public services.

There have already been significant wins by Tasmanian workers in unions.

Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU) and Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union (CEPU)- After a 20 week strike, union members at Saputo Dairy Burnie won a 21.7% pay rise, to bring them in line with mainland Saputo workers doing the same job.

Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) members spoke up about the crisis of extreme vacancies in Pharmacy, securing a $10,000 Tasmanian Government market allowance to attract and retain Pharmacists in the Tasmanian Health Service.
