Turning research into practical change in Tasmanian workplaces
Gender Equity Works is a Unions Tasmania project focused on improving safety, inclusion and opportunity for women working in male-dominated industries across Tasmania.
The project has involved extensive research with workers, employers, unions and training providers across utilities, electrical (construction) and transport. That research phase is now complete, and the project is moving into its next stage – translating evidence into practical tools that support real workplace change.
What’s coming in early 2026
Research report A comprehensive report capturing the lived experiences of women working in gender-segregated industries in Tasmania, alongside key findings and practical recommendations for employers, unions and policymakers.
Online training Short, practical online training modules designed for employers, workers and health and safety representatives, focused on recognising risks, strengthening workplace culture and turning insight into action.
Resources toolkit A practical toolkit to help workplaces assess current practices, identify priority actions and track progress on gender equity over time.
Together, these resources are designed to support safer, fairer and more inclusive workplaces – strengthening retention, participation and long-term workforce sustainability across Tasmania.
Workplace gender equality benefits everyone. It leads to safer, fairer and more productive environments. But right now, too many Tasmanian industries are missing out on the full talent pool – especially sectors where women remain underrepresented
Gender Equity Works is a project designed to develop the tools Tasmanian workers and employers need to:
expand workplace flexibility
address health and safety risks that affect women
shift workplace culture through WHS-driven change
lead with clarity and confidence.
Led by Unions Tasmania, Gender Equity Works is funded through the Federal Government's Advancing Gender Equality in Gender Segregated Industries grant program and is supported by the ACTU. Running until March 2026, the project will provide free public access to all materials.
We’ll be sharing the Gender Equity Works report, online training and toolkit from early 2026. Follow Unions Tasmania on Facebook or join our mailing list to hear when new resources go live.
